Money Matters 101


     

Money Matters 101 is an interactive financial education learning tool brought to you by State Treasurer Josh Mandel in partnership with iQity™. The state legislature has required Ohio high schools and middle schools to offer personal financial education to students. Through Money Matters 101, the State Treasurer’s office assists local school districts and teachers in offering financial education that is meaningful and compliant with the statute. The Money Matters 101 classroom can be used by teachers, parents, students or anyone interested in learning more about how to manage their finances.

What is Money Matters 101?

Money Matters 101 delivers financial education through an interactive eLearning platform.  Each subject contains interactive games, quizzes and engaging instructional lessons.   Money Matters 101 covers topics in the core curriculum requirements for personal financial education such as: 

- Savings  - Investment
- Employment - Loans
- Credit and Debt Management - Identity Theft
- Financial Institutions - Budgeting
- Retirement Planning - Insurance

Goals of Money Matters 101:

By sharing innovative online resources and instruction, the State Treasurer of Ohio provides Ohioans with an interactive personal finance experience they can understand.  Through strategic partnerships and leveraging technology this resource is being made available at no cost to Ohioans.

How do I register?

Registration is easy! 
Simply follow this link: Register Now.  Complete the online registration form.  If you are having difficulty accessing the online registration form, you can also register over the phone by calling the State Treasurer’s office at 1-800-228-1102, option #1. After you finalize and submit your online registration form, you will receive a confirmation email from the Treasurer’s office (moneymatters101@tos.ohio.gov) notifying you of your account activation. Then enjoy the interactive, user-friendly personal financial education tool.  

I am having difficulty activating or logging in to my Money Matters 101 account?
Call 1-800-228-1102, option #1 and a friendly associate will assist you in whatever way possible during the business hours of M-F 8am-4:30pm.  

Who can register and use Money Matters 101?
Money Matters 101 is available to anyone who has an email address, access to a computer with internet connection, and registers through the Treasurer’s office registration page.

I forgot my password?
Go to https://moneymatters.iqity.net/ and click on the link to retrieving your password.  Answer the simple security question you supplied to the iQity learning platform and your password will be displayed. Should you need further assistance, please contact the State Treasurer’s office at 1-800-228-1102, option #1 or email us at moneymatters101@tos.ohio.gov.

How do I enter the Money Matters 101 classroom?
  • You can access Money Matters from the log-in page at https://moneymatters.iqity.net/.  Also you can find the log-in page at www.OhioTreasurer.gov/MoneyMatters101.
  • Enter your username and password.  You will be taken to the “School Announcements” page to welcome you the Money Matters 101.
  • Click on the Classroom tab at the top of the page to view the classes available in Money Matters 101.
  • Select from the full Money Matters 101 or the condensed course.
  • On the left side of your screen, there are units and lesson folders for the course work.
  • To open the folder, highlight the folder you would like and left click. There are subfolders with interactive tools and lessons within each main subject folder.
What lessons are available through Money Matters 101?
The Money Matters 101 syllabus  provides an in depth description of the course materials or eLearning environment.  Here is a short summary of the units and lessons.

I need help finding the course work I’m interested in, can someone assist?
If you are unable to find what you are looking for, contact us at moneymatters101@tos.ohio.gov or 1-800-228-1102, option  #1 and a Community Education Coordinator will assist you. If the course work you are interested in is not available in the Money Matters 101 content please review the Ohio Treasurer’s Office website http://www.ohiotreasurer.gov/ within the Financial Education tab in the Education Resources or Resource Library sections. 

Can I use my web browser's “Reload” or “Back” buttons while in Money Matters 101?
It is not advised. Use the navigation menus to the left of the classroom screen or the tabs along the top of the page to navigate. Most pages also have built-in navigation links that take you back or forward. Usually, using your browser’s “Back” or “Reload” buttons can cause confusing or unintended results, including taking you out of the classroom.

Should I allow pop-ups on my internet settings for this website?
Yes. Some features require new windows to be opened. Such features will not function properly without first allowing pop-ups from the website in your browser.

Can I print the Money Matters 101 materials?
Yes, at the top right of your screen in Money Matters 101 there is a “printer friendly” link. The “Print friendly” link opens the page you're currently viewing in a new window. This “new” version of the page is better formatted for printing, in most cases.

Can Money Matters 101 run on a computer using dial-up Internet connection?
Yes. Although a high-speed connection is preferable for any web-based application, Money Matters 101 can be accessed using most types of Internet connections, including dial-up.  Please note that some of the media-rich content may be too slow to be enjoyable when using a dial-up connection.

What is iQity™ and Money Matters 101?  
The State Treasurer’s office strives to be leader in financial education and to provide resources to local school districts, parents, teachers, and students. To achieve these goals, the State Treasurer’s office has partnered with iQity™ to provide the online resource Money Matters 101. iQity™ has agreed to provide their eLearning Platform at no cost with interactive personal finance lessons and engaging educational games provided by Currium™.

iQity™ is an eLearning Platform providing online learning environments. Currium™ provides content for grade 6-12 online learning. All content is aligned to national standards, and was created by professional curriculum specialists to address how students learn best.
