ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The State Treasurer of Ohio made a stop in Zanesville today to make a major announcement about the fiscal transparency of Zanesville City Schools.
Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel announced today that Zanesville City Schools will now post their spending on OhioCheckbook.com. OhioCheckbook.com is an initiative Mandel started in 2014 to have local government and school officials post their finances online for the taxpayers to have access to.
“Proud to be in Zanesville today. Putting the Zanesville City Schools online. The taxpayers have a right to know how the tax money is being spent. And what we’re doing is taking all of the spending in the school district and we’re putting it on the internet,” said Mandel. “We’re gonna put it on people’s iPhones, on their computers, so the taxpayers of Zanesville can see how the tax money is being spent.”
Since the initiative launched over 1,200 local government and school districts have joined the program.
“We’ve had great success with OhioCheckbook.com throughout the state of Ohio. In fact, before we launched OhioCheckbook.com our ranking nationally for fiscal transparency was 46th in the country. Today as a result of all of the spending we put online our new ranking for fiscal transparency is number one in America.”
The Zanesville City Schools Superintendent Dr. Doug Baker and Treasurer Mike Young were both in attendance at the meeting. OhioCheckbook.com has over 80,000 transactions and over $193 million of spending tracked for the school district.
