Treasurer Mandel visits Mansfield High School to discuss new financial literacy program, Financial EDge

Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel visited Mansfield Senior High School on Monday, November 25th to meet with students in the school’s Personal Finance class, and see components of his office’s new Financial EDge program in action. Financial EDge is a recently launched financial education program designed to help Ohio’s high schools meet a newly implemented financial literacy requirement which is in place for the first time beginning with this year’s graduating class of seniors.

The class utilizes a suite of online tools developed by EverFi, an educational technology firm, and is made available to the school through an ongoing partnership with locally operated Richland Bank. The bank’s marketing manager joined Mandel, and echoed the Treasurer’s support for getting students engaged and interested in financial literacy.

“Regardless of what you do after high school – college, the military or the job market – you’re going to need the financial tools to develop a budget, balance a checkbook and manage a mortgage,” said Treasurer Mandel. “If you can’t do those things, it’s going to make your life a lot more difficult and stressful, but understanding personal finances will make students lives much more enjoyable as adults.”
