Treasurer Mandel Hosts First Ever Veterans Smart Money Choices Financial Literacy Event

MASON – Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel hosted the first ever Veterans Smart Money Choices financial literacy event Tuesday at the Community Center in Mason as part of a new statewide effort to provide financial resources to Ohio’s veterans, service members and their families.  This free financial literacy series was offered in partnership with the Warren and Clermont County Veterans Service Commissions and is part of Treasurer Mandel’s effort to help improve awareness of the programs and resources available to veterans and their families.

“As an Iraq War veteran, I understand the importance of a strong support system when returning home,” said Treasurer Mandel.  “Unfortunately, many service men and women are unaware of the programs and resources available to them to help ease their transition into civilian life.  Providing our nation’s heroes with knowledge and access to resources will help empower them to continue their service to our country in other ways outside of wearing their uniform.”

The Veterans Smart Money Choices Workshop is a free financial planning seminar for all of Ohio’s veterans, service members and their families.  Key topics in the series include local benefits and financial assistance, budgeting, credit and debt management, investments, and identity theft and fraud prevention.  Additional topics covered include homeownership, retirement and estate planning, and Social Security.

The event also included presentations and attendance from the Ohio Attorney General’s office, the Cincinnati VA Medical Center which provided a mobile health unit to assist in veteran enrollment, Congressman Steve Chabot’s office, and the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.
