Treasurer Mandel and Toledo Mayor Michael Collins Host Veterans Smart Money Choices Workshop
TOLEDO -- Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel and Toledo Mayor Michael Collins hosted a Veterans Smart Money Choices financial literacy event today at the University of Toledo's Rocket Hall. The workshop was part of a new statewide effort launched by Treasurer Mandel to provide financial resources to Ohio's veterans, service members and their families. This free financial literacy event was offered in partnership with the UT's Military Service Center. It is part of Treasurer Mandel's ongoing effort to help improve awareness of programs and resources available to Ohio veterans, service members, and their families.
"As an Iraq War veteran, I understand the importance of a strong support system when returning home," said Treasurer Mandel. "Unfortunately, many service men and women are unaware of the programs and resources available to them to help ease their transition into civilian life. Providing veterans with knowledge and access to resources will help empower them to continue their service to our country in other ways outside of wearing their uniform."
"I am proud to partner with Treasurer Mandel to offer the Smart Money Choices workshop to veterans in Toledo and to make these valuable financial resources available across Northwest Ohio," said Mayor Collins. "As Marine Veterans we both understand the challenges facing service members and their families, and feel it's important that government agencies at every level join the general public to mobilize and show appreciation for their sacrifice."
The Veterans Smart Money Choices Workshop is a free financial planning seminar geared toward Ohio's veterans, service members, and their families. Key topics in the series include local benefits and financial assistance, budgeting, credit and debt management, investments, and identity theft and fraud prevention. Additional topics covered include homeownership, retirement and estate planning, and Social Security.
