Ohio Treasurer Richard Cordray is accepting applications for the Treasurer’s investment designee to the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System Board of Trustees. Interested applicants are asked to submit information and qualifications by January 25, 2008.
The appointee will replace Warren Tyler, who was appointed by former state treasurer Joe Deters to a four-year term beginning December 4, 2004. Tyler resigned last month.
State law requires the following of the appointee:
• Must be a resident of Ohio;
• Must have investment experience;
• Cannot have been employed by any of the State’s five retirement pension funds or have provided any financial or investment services to any of those systems within three years immediately before the appointment;
• Cannot currently be employed by the state or any of its political subdivisions.
The OPERS Board of Trustees meets monthly and members are not compensated for their service to the Board. However, Board members may be reimbursed for actual and necessary expenses related to their service. By law, the Treasurer’s designee also serves on the Ohio Public Employees Deferred Compensation Board.
“I expect my representative to feel, just as deeply as I do, a sense of responsibility for the pension benefits and health care coverage of Ohio’s active and retired public employees,” Cordray said. “We will carefully scrutinize the applicants who seek this critical role.”
